Annual Report

The Angel Band Project

Annual Report 2016

The mission of the Angel Band Project is to break the silence surrounding sexual violence, while

promoting healing for survivors through the power of music.

Summary of 2016 Programs and Accomplishments

The Angel Band Project sponsors the nation’s only music

therapy program for survivors of sexual and intimate partner

violence. In 2016, we served a total of 93 individuals.

Participants came to weekly music therapy sessions for a total

of six weeks, and participated in programs such as lyric

analysis, drumming, song writing, and experiencing how music

can be used for relaxation and to build coping skills. In April,

during National Sexual Assault Awareness Month, we

partnered with Maryville University on Stroll Against Silence, a

walk to show support of survivors of these forms of violence.

In May, we received a grant from the Lily Awards Foundation

in New York City, which enabled us to start conversations with

NYU about expanding our program to survivors in NYC in 2017.

We expanded our programs to Seattle, Washington in the

summer of 2016. In November, we released our third benefit

album comprised of songs written and performed by survivors

of sexual/intimate partner violence with the support of our

music therapist.
